Lancelot has suffered from an illness called Granulomatous Meningoencephalitis (GME) but due to the great care he has received and his own indomitable spirit, his illness is now in remission! He is still battling some of the effects of his medication (Prednisone) but those are diminishing as he is nearly weaned off of it. No one knows how long he will remain in remission. The norm is about 2 years but some dogs have lived upwards of 8 years in remission. He may require a neurologist in the future. His current medication costs about $30/month or about the price of a couple Starbucks coffees a week.
Lancelot came to Hopeful Hearts suffering from seizures which started when he was 3. He was diagnosed with GME so Lancelot will join Hopeful Hearts’ group of palliative dogs who, unless adopted out to the right home, will live in foster care for whatever time remains in his life.
Lancelot was very much loved by his family. When he got ill, they spent their entire savings trying to save his life including foregoing a down payment on a home. Unfortunately, this put them in a financially unstable position and they were forced to put out a plea to the community to help find a person or rescue who could take care of Lancelot. Hearing the call, Hopeful Hearts stepped up to take care of him.
Lancelot is a great dog who gets along with other dogs and cats and is good with children.
